Surrender
and Watch the Magic Unfold
WE THINK WE KNOW
WHAT we’re doing, we
believe the path is laid out before us and we continually choose to connect
with our inner guidance to keep us on the right and higher road.
The good news is I believe we really do
know what we’re doing, that the path is laid out before us AND it Doesn't
always look the way we think it will look, or take the amount of time we believe
it should take to fully manifest and align with our inner knowing. “Right”
and “Higher” are relative words. It is ALL right and higher, when
we remove judgment and our limited-scope ego perspectives.
Here’s a perfect example:
In the midst of my prayers one morning for
understanding and inner peace with respect to the next steps for CosmiKids,
I immediately heard the audio notice of a text message having been sent. I’d
been texted by my best friend, (the key word that I want to emphasize is immediately)
who asked me to call her as soon as I could. She was on the east coast, so I
scurried out to my office and called her right away. She didn’t often
contact me with such words as immediacy, so I happily complied.
Her voice was familiar and sweet as she
answered the phone. “I’m so glad you called,” she relayed
in a slow, sure cadence, “I just received the most amazing information
that I wanted to share with you.”
My dearest friend since the early 80’s
went on to offer me some remarkable support, totally unsolicited, via an Osho
Zen Card reading. She said she’d felt guided to pull cards with me in
mind just after her morning meditation and the next thing she knew she felt
a strong desire to call me right then and deliver the messages she had received.
As she lovingly spoke, my mind drifted
back and connected the dots to my earlier prayer request. Her words were a welcome
balm that eased my emotional discomfort, specifically with respect to my mission
and purpose in life. My prayers had been answered through Jennifer – immediately.
I was so grateful to have noticed.
I then went on to wonder how many other
heart-felt requests that had been duly filled in an instant might also have
gone unnoticed. Could it have been that my attention in the past on frustration,
impatience, judgment or despair might have missed the quiet, precise presence
of divine intervention when I needed it the most? What
followed next was even more amazing.
I was led to five valuable resources suggested
by different people during the course of the days following my quiet request.

Together, these five highly transformational
tools gave me exactly what I needed, when I needed it, and all it took was for
me to surrender to my higher power/higher self as I said in a somewhat exasperated
tone, “Okay, I give up.”
Here’s what went down during the weeks
prior to my surrender:
We had made a conscious business decision
to close our CosmiKids Tarzana location after twelve wonderful months of operation.
We had thousands visit our play center for one-of-a-kind, memorable experiences.
Everyone loved it, came back for more and told their friends and loved ones
about us.
We didn’t get the foot traffic that
we had anticipated for a profitable model, but what we did get was valuable
information, data and financial input about what parents and children were seeking
with respect to community programs, educational enrichment and family services.
We realized that we’d been able to deliver a multi-platform business with
an unrivaled reputation for creativity and excellence in ways that no one had
ever been able to do before. And we
continue to keep people entertained, inspired, informed and connected. As
a fiscally responsible company, we decided to conserve our resources, find more
visible, highly trafficked locations for our play centers and seek additional
ways to reach the community in more meaningful, impactful ways.
It was a tremendously challenging time for
all of us, as everything had been building towards what we thought our business
was to be and then it all seemed to come to a screeching halt. No one likes
to close their doors, lay off devoted employees and refund member fees, but
we did it. It all seemed to flow rather smoothly once the decision had been
made. The only thing I had trouble with was my ego, my judgment of my decisions
and then stepping into total uncertainty about what I was to do next. Ah-ha!
There I went again – into my doing mode – what to DO next. What
was different this particular time was my new-found reliance on the metaphysical
tools of support that I’d just mentioned above. I’d been invited
to just “BE” through the information that I’d been presented
with in the books, CD’s, workbooks, music and even flower essences that
I’d uncovered. Ugh! That meant I had to stay in the discomfort, disappointment
and despair.
Well, the more I did, the more angry, sad
and frustrated I became until one day, during an emotional meltdown, I shouted,
“I’m done”, from deep within, clenching and shaking my fists
into the air. I had honestly felt
that I had done my best. That we had done our best and that I didn’t
know what more I/we could do to bring this business of empowerment and inspiration
to children, parents, caregivers and educators across the globe.
Total surrender.
And then things began to shift.
And did I mention the magic?
Within weeks, the phone was ringing, the
fax was receiving and the encouraging e-mails were piling up in response to
what needed to happen next.
This all happened without my doing anything
but following my inclinations moment-to-moment and tending to my own emotional
and energetic balance point.
